Almost everyone wants to work for themselves, but not everyone has the characteristics to be their own B.O.S.S.

Here are 10 characteristics that every successful entrepreneur has to have or will need to develop,because like things in life they can be learned.

1…Are you a self starter?. Sounds like a classified ad for a commission only sales job doesn’t it? Well that’s because that is exactly what working for yourself is, a commission only sales job, and you must have the characteristics of a self starter, someone who has the discipline to get started even when you can’t see any payoff.

2…Are You A Decision Maker?. As an employee you go to work and your boss  already has your day planned out for you, not so as  your own B.O.S.S. you are making the decisions. There’s no one to tell you what to do next, when to take a lunch break or even if you should take one, decision making skills is essential as an entrepreneur.

3…Can You Work Alone? As in making decisions there are times when it’s just you. It’s all up to you, so you have to be the bottle washer, cook, pilot,supervisor, telemarketer, can you stand being in your own company, entrepreneurship can be lonely sometimes.

4…Can You lead People?. Honestly some people were not meant to be in a position of leadership. You have to be able to get along with people, even the ones that you don’t like, because business is a people to people business and you won’t like everyone, but you can’t allow that to affect your business, and some people just don’t have that skill, because they take things too personal.

5…Do You Have Good Time Management Skills?. You control your time, you decide what to do and when to do it. Are you disciplined enough to set a schedule and follow it. Are you disciplined enough to work your business as if you were still working for someone else, and get things done in a timely manner?

6…Can You Take Advice?. Are you open to listening to others? I mean really listen to others. Most will say yes, because that’s the default answer, but if you really want to know the truth, ask other people if you are open to advice, if you’re not even willing to ask, then this is definitely you, you believe that this is your business, you’re the boss and you make all the decisions, and other people’s opinion doesn’t matter. Remember business is a people to people business, no one does it by themselves.

7…Can You Communicate Your Ideas? Are you able to effectively communicate what you’re thinking? Communication skills is one of the greatest assets you can have in business.

8…Can You Live With Insecurity? Income is not always guaranteed, and things won’t always work out as planned, and if and when they do, can you live with the doubts, and insecurities?.

9…Are You Enthusiastic? Enthusiasm has to come from you before anyone else around you believes it. Your belief and enthusiasm is contagious, and so if doubt and disbelief.

10…Are You Up For The Challenge?. Success is ultimately dependent upon you. If someone doesn’t perform their task, guess what it’s on you not them. There is no passing the blame, it’s all on you. Are you up for that?.
